Introduction

Context

The Children's Journey Portal is web platform designed to improve how parents/caregivers navigate their child's medical or surgical experience. Developed for The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Center (RI-MUHC), this project merges clinical expertise with digital product design to create a structured, supportive, and secure digital environment for families.

Challenge

  • Dispersed Information: Caregivers face high stress due to scattered resources and unclear, untimely communication.

  • Complex Medical Content: Transforming medical instructions into structured, digestible content for non-clinical users.

  • Building trust: Handling sensitive patient health information.

  • Bilingual Accessibility: Catering to different languages and localization of content.

  • Role Requirements: Catering to the unique functional and access needs of four distinct user roles.

Goal

Design a mobile-first, secure, and intuitive portal for clear, milestone-based guidance, and a web platform to enhance operational efficiency by enabling clinical staff to personalize care templates and communicate in real-time.
